Oregon Community College Library Association (OCCLA) Website Design & Development

At Alpenglow Agency, we’re a Bend, Oregon WordPress web design shop at heart, and this project proves it. It started right here in our own backyard. The Oregon Community College Library Association (OCCLA), the network of directors from all 17 of Oregon’s community college libraries, came to us as a whole association ready to build something together. Leading the charge from Barber Library at Central Oregon Community College, right in our home turf, championing the project on behalf of the whole crew. When they came to us for a new site, we grabbed our gear and got moving.
The Journey
OCCLA needed a digital basecamp: a home base where library directors and officers across the state could find each other, share documentation, and coordinate on the shared vision of what a community college library should be. The site needed to welcome the public with open arms while also giving members a members-only trailhead for the day-to-day business of running a statewide association.
We set out to build something that felt as organized as a well-labeled trail map, with clear paths for every kind of visitor—built on WordPress, the same trusted trail system we use for most of our Bend, Oregon, web design clients.
What We Created
Here’s what ended up in the AlpenPack:
- A Gallery Worth Gazing At: OCCLA represents 17 different libraries scattered across the state, from the Gorge to the coast to the high desert. We built a rotating photo gallery right on the homepage so every member campus gets its moment.
- Clear Trailheads for Every Visitor: Whether someone’s landing on the site to learn who OCCLA is, browse the association’s Constitution and By-Laws, or track down the current Library Representatives and Officers, we made sure the path to that information never takes more than a couple clicks.
- A Basecamp for Members: We built out a dedicated Member Portal housing meeting minutes and a listserv, so officers and representatives have a private spot to handle association business without cluttering up the public-facing presence.
- A Vision Statement That Actually Reads Like One: OCCLA’s vision for the community college library as a welcoming learning commons is the heart of this organization. We gave it a clean, dedicated section so it reads less like a mission-statement PDF and more like the thoughtful message it is.
Why It Matters
Community college libraries are quiet powerhouses—places where students find not just books, but people who help them find their footing. OCCLA’s job is to make sure those libraries, and the librarians who run them, have what they need to keep doing that work well across all 17 campuses. A site that’s easy to navigate and simple to maintain means OCCLA’s directors can spend less time wrestling with their website and more time doing what they actually signed up for: supporting students.
